September 29, 2019. Shanghai – A special ceremony was held today to congratulate CEIBS President Li Mingjun for being named a recipient of the National Commemorative Medal. Chen Hui, a Shanghai Municipality representative and Director of the Organisation and Personnel Division of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, delivered the medal to CEIBS’ Shanghai campus. Ms. Helen Xu, Assistant President, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and Director of the Dean’s Office and Ms. Cynthia Liu, Assistant Director of President’s Office also participated in the award ceremony.

The medal is in commemoration of the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and was jointly issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China. The National Commemorative Medal recognises recipients’ outstanding contributions to the People’s Republic of China and to the development of socialist modernisation.

Professor Li thanked Director Chen for the delivery of the medal, adding that the honour would inspire and motivate him to further dedicate himself to the mission of the country and the party. He also expressed on behalf of CEIBS his appreciation to the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office for its unwavering support of the school.

Between 2008 and 2015, Prof. Li served as Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipality and President of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. During his tenure there, the Foreign Affairs Office hosted many large-scale events and was recognised by the government numerous times for its achievements. In addition, Prof. Li also played a significant role in the success of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

In 2015, the Shanghai Municipal Government appointed Prof. Li as CEIBS President. Through the joint efforts of school leadership and the hard work of faculty and staff, CEIBS has made great progress in teaching and research, innovation, and internationalisation. In 2019, both the MBA and Global EMBA programmes reached a record high of #5 in the Financial Times’ global rankings. This is the highest ranking ever achieved by an Asian business school, and stands as a notable achievement on the occasion of both the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25^th anniversary of the founding of CEIBS.

September 17, 2019. Beijing – Former Prime Minister of France and CEIBS Distinguished Professor Jean-Pierre Raffarin has been named as a recipient of the Medal of Friendship, making him one of 42 recipients of national medals and honorary titles from the Chinese government this month. The awards were voted on during the 13^th Session of the 13^th National People's Congress Standing Committee and then signed into official order by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Together with the Medal of the Republic, the Medal of Friendship is one of two national level honours established by the Chinese government in recent years. The Medal of the Republic is awarded to individuals who have made great contributions to the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the preservation of the country. The Medal of Friendship is given to foreigners who have made outstanding contributions to China's modernisation, have engaged in exchange and co-operation between China and the international community and have worked towards the maintenance of world peace. The medal has previously been awarded to Russian President Vladimir Putin and former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Prof. Raffarin officially joined CEIBS as a Distinguished Professor in February 2018 and was named as the Charles de Gaulle Chair in Global Leadership in June 2018. His rich experience and knowledge of politics, economy and history, together with his unique teaching methods, have helped CEIBS students to better understand leadership and manage their corporations in a global context. Since then, he has delivered many speeches at the school events around the world, where he has exchanged ideas with Chinese and European professors, students and alumni. Prof. Raffarin has also conducted numerous exchanges on behalf of CEIBS with Shanghai municipal leaders. His efforts have made important contributions to the school’s goal of cultivating responsible leaders, and have further fostered positive ties between China and Europe.

CEIBS President Li Mingjun, CEIBS President (European) Dipak Jain, Vice President and Dean Ding Yuan and Vice President and Co-Dean Zhang Weijiong issued a special letter to Prof. Raffarin, expressing their sincere congratulations on behalf of CEIBS faculty and staff as well as the school’s more than 22,000 alumni. Their letter noted that, as we approach the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Prof. Raffarin is regarded as an important international friend and is the only French citizen to have received the award – one of China’s highest honours. As such, the award is not only a personal one, but is also a great honour for both France and CEIBS. Moreover, as CEIBS this year celebrates its 25^th anniversary, Prof. Raffarin’s Medal of Friendship represents a kind of “double happiness” for the school.

Prof. Raffarin served as the Prime Minister of France from 2002 to 2005 and as Vice-Chairman of the French Senate from 2011 to 2014. Throughout his political career, he advocated for reforms in a wide range of areas such as pensions and medical insurance. Mr. Raffarin has participated in numerous international activities and has visited China many times, earning him the distinction of being called “an old friend of the Chinese people”. He is also the Chairman of both the Comité France Chine and the Social Development Innovation Foundation. In 2018, he was appointed by French President Emmanuel Macron as the Special Representative of the French Government in China.

September 14, 2019. Shanghai – In October 2017, 80 business leaders from 15 countries around the world joined CEIBS as members of the Global EMBA 2017 cohort. Two years later, this learning journey has come to a celebratory conclusion. Today, the CEIBS Shanghai campus welcomed the cohort and their family members to cap that journey off in style by celebrating the CEIBS Global EMBA 2017 graduation.

Nikolaos Tsikriktsis, Director of the CEIBS Global EMBA Programme, announced the opening of the graduation ceremony. School leaders including CEIBS President Li Mingjun and CEIBS President (European) Dipak Jain also attended the event.

Professor Jain then began the proceedings with a congratulatory speech, which he concluded by telling the graduates, “When you proceed from success to significance, make sure that you think of the community and see what you can do to make the world a better place.”

Louise Vogler, Regional Chief Credit Officer, Africa and Middle East & Global Financial Institutions Risk at Standard Chartered Bank, then offered a keynote speech. In her speech, she discussed the benefits she has gained from being a CEIBS alumna, and emphasised the power of the CEIBS alumni network and the lifelong support it provides. Finally, she wished the graduates well and challenged them to change the world with the confidence and optimism they have gained from CEIBS.

On behalf of the faculty team, Shameen Prashantham, Associate Professor of International Business and Strategy, told the graduates that, as they begin their journey as alumni of CEIBS, they should leverage their networks actively, discerningly and reflectively.

Next, graduate representatives Dai Lei and Victor Ikechukwu Ugorji gave a pair of speeches in which they elaborated on their achievements as GEMBA students. They recalled how their classmates supported them when they faced challenges, and also expressed gratitude to the faculty and staff that offered help during their stay here.

CEIBS President Li Mingjun then accepted a special donation from the graduating class to CEIBS in honour of the school’s 25th anniversary. Several students also received awards for outstanding academic achievement and classroom contribution. Victor Ikechukwu Ugorji, Roger Daniel Baumgartner Marti and Tanya Hsu were presented with the Best GPA Award. Tanya Hsu, Ori Schnitzer, Thomas Williams and Michelle Zhang Ying were presented with the Outstanding Graduate Award.

Finally, Presidents Li Mingjun and Dipak Jain conferred diplomas to all of the graduates. As the curtain fell on the ceremony, 80 students completed their learning journey at CEIBS and will now embark on the next chapter of their lives.

As we approach Mid-Autumn Festival, a special occasion on which to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the full moon, we would like to extend our most sincere greetings to the more than 22,000 CEIBS alumni around the world. This summer, CEIBS welcomed the high-spirited MBA2021 cohort, awarded research and teaching awards to professors who have achieved outstanding results over the past year and we were officially re-certified as an accredited business school by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In just over two weeks, we will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, and in less than two months, we will celebrate CEIBS' 25th anniversary. With so many wonderful memories to look back on and more exciting events to look forward to, we believe that this Mid-Autumn Festival will be especially joyous for the whole CEIBS community.

In August, we published the MBA2019 Career Report. We were delighted to note that, despite an increasingly competitive job market, 94.3% of our MBA 2019 students found employment within 3 months of graduating, marking the highest employment rate we have recorded in the past decade. This is, in part, due to the high calibre of our MBA graduates, and in part to the generous support and help of our alumni – for which we are always thankful. It is also noteworthy that over 40% of our graduates joined Chinese businesses, and over half of our employed international graduates are now pursuing their careers in China. It all goes to show how attractive China’s economic strength and resilience are for job candidates in today’s global economy.

Over the past 25 years, CEIBS has grown into a world-renowned business school and one which is leading the pack in Asia. Both the CEIBS MBA and GEMBA programmes have now made it into the Financial Times’ list of the world’s top 5. These achievements are a testament to the strength of CEIBS as a business school, underpinned by our commitment to the motto of “Conscientiousness, Innovation and Excellence”. In July, we held the inaugural Business Experience Camp for children of CEIBS alumni at our Shanghai Campus, giving them an immersive learning experience, including activities such as a campus tour, business case discussions and field trips to partner companies. Experiencing these activities through the eyes of their children, many alumni commented that they felt as if they had been transported back to the time when they too studied at CEIBS. Looking ahead, we hope that the academic rigor that we instil in our alumni will be passed down through generations.

In April, we kicked off our 25th anniversary celebrations in Beijing, Shanghai and Accra, and held a series of exciting events around the world, including the CEIBS Insights 2019 Europe Forum series in Zurich, Munich and Brussels, the 3rd CEIBS Insights US Forum in Boston, the CEIBS China-Africa Forum 2019 (on the theme of “When China Meets Africa”), the CEIBS Insights Executive Receptions in Beijing and Shanghai, the 2019 Class Representatives Homecoming Day, and the CEIBS Asia Alumni Reunion in Singapore – and we are only a little more than half way through the year! In early October, we will hold our annual CEIBS Europe Alumni Reunion in Paris, at which former Prime Minister of France and Distinguished Professor at CEIBS Dominique de Villepin will deliver a speech. In November, we will host CEIBS 25th Anniversary Celebrations at our Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai campuses. At that time, a number of major guests will join us to help revive our memories and mark the beginning of a new journey.

Zhu Guangqian, founder of contemporary Chinese aesthetics, famously said, “Do the right thing. Right now. Right here.” By that, he meant that one should never shun their responsibilities, never postpone what should be done today until tomorrow and never try to convince themselves that they could do better under different circumstances. Having reached our 25th anniversary milestone, we know that building a world-leading, well-respected business school steeped in “China Essence, Global Significance” is what we must do – right now, right here. We will keep moving and make every day count in our relentless pursuit of this goal.

During the Mid-Autumn night, the full moon shines at its brightest. It is the best time to take a moment to observe the moon in all its splendour — be it from the tranquil courtyard at our Shanghai campus, the modern office park of the Shenzhen campus, high atop the Beijing campus, our beautiful campus on the shore of Lake Zurich or from the Accra campus filled with the sound of African drums. Perhaps, this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival will fill us with more than just the wonder of nature. May it also remind us of warm memories and the earnest expectations we share for the school’s development. Tonight, wherever you are, we hope the full moon brings best wishes to CEIBS and all of us!

August 29, 2019. Beijing – On the afternoon of August 29, the nearly 30 participants of the 14th Workshop for European Diplomats, led by Counsellor Lin Hang from the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), paid a visit to CEIBS Beijing Campus. CEIBS Vice President and Dean Ding Yuan attended the workshop and delivered a keynote speech. Assistant President and Chief Representative of the Beijing Campus Mr. Ma Yusheng then accompanied the participants on a campus tour. Senior Consultant of the Dean’s Office and Director of CEIBS Education Foundation Mr. Xu Bo and a number of CEIBS alumni also attended the event, exchanging insights with 27 diplomats from European countries including Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Romania and Finland.

CEIBS Vice President Ding Yuan addressed the workshop and introduced the development of the school in his speech, “A Role Model of EU-China Cooperation — How CEIBS Became a Top International B-School Based in China”. In his speech, he pointed out that CEIBS has since its beginnings benefited from China’s opening-up and has adapted its development strategy to market demands and changes in domestic and international economic climates over the years. For 25 years, CEIBS has been committed to pursuing academic excellence and educating responsible business leaders with global vision. The school now runs 5 campuses around the world, boasts a network of more than 22,000 alumni from over 80 countries, and has provided executive education for over 160,000 executives at home and abroad. It is the only business school in Asia to have simultaneously made it to the Financial Times’ top 5 list of MBA and EMBA programmes. Leaders from the Chinese government and the EU have respectively lauded CEIBS as “a cradle of excellent executives” and “a role model of EU-China cooperation”.

Professor Ding further noted that the success of CEIBS should be attributed to the continuous rapid development of China’s economy, the expanding demand for business education and international talents, the school’s exceptional faculty and, most importantly, to the long-term close collaboration between the Chinese government and the European Commission.

Diplomats paid special attention to China’s business education and to the development of Chinese companies and the economy. Discussion topics ranged from CEIBS’s programme curriculum, 5-campus operations strategy and cohesion of its alumni network to China’s economic transformation, SOE reform and economic trends. According to Professor Ding, CEIBS has adopted a culture that “stresses the interaction between teaching and research and centres on students and alumni”. CEIBS will continue to absorb the essence from domestic management practices and business models to provide intellectual support for China’s economic transformation. It will serve as a bridge between China and Europe, and even the whole world, by contributing world-class original research results and facilitating economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation. 

September 9, 2019. Zurich – CEIBS Zurich Campus CEO Robert Straw will speak at an event focusing on human resources issues co-hosted by Chinese Embassy in Switzerland.

The China-Europe Talent Forum, which is also co-organised by the Adecco Group, aims to foster inter-cultural exchange and discussions about developments in academia, business and politics.

Senior decision-makers and management academics will gather at the English-language event on September 18 in Zurich to discuss changing workplaces worldwide and how the role talent plays will differ in the future.

“Understanding global trends in talent development, and applying expertise to create real benefits for workplaces is at the core of what we do at CEIBS,” Dr. Straw said, adding, “I’m very much looking forward to exchanging thoughts and ideas with a really impressive panel and I believe it will be a very inspiring discussion for all who attend”.

This year, in addition to the traditional text essay, candidates also have the option to showcase their life and career by sharing a short video. Apart from this, the application process will remain the same.
