For well over 100 years, a lot energy was focused on pushing the capabilities of the automobile. Past breakthroughs in vehicular power, handling and design exceeded the physical limits of the human body. But now the invention of connected cars, autonomous driving and smart cities are beginning to transcend the potential of the human brain. As cars become increasingly entwined with our lifestyles and future, we must also demand their makers conduct their craft in an ethical manner. The automotive industry faces several challenges – from shifting to renewable energy to overcoming traffic congestion to new forms of mobility – which it must tackle head-on.

1+1 Lecture Nairobi: Gorillas Can Dance: Strategies for Effective Corporation-Start-up Partnering

Submitted by admin on Wed, 10/16/2019 - 14:20

CEIBS invites you to attend an Executive Seminar on October 16 in Nairobi.

Faced with disruption brought about by digitalization, multinational corporations are realizing the value of partnering with external actors – including start-ups. However, while established corporations and start-ups do have complementary capabilities that could result in win-win collaboration they often find that developing productive partnerships is not straightforward. The very thing that attracts them to each other – their significant differences – also makes it difficult to work together. Therefore, the partnering process must be approached not only enthusiastically but thoughtfully.

In this talk, drawing upon over a decade of research in multiple locations – including China, Germany, India, Israel, UK and USA – CEIBS Professor of International Business and Strategy Shameen Prashantham provides guidance on how corporations and start-ups can build mutually beneficial partnerships. Using examples such as Microsoft, BMW and Unilever, he will discuss the “why”, “how” and “where” of corporation-start-up partnering. The key takeaway of this talk is that to succeed in the age of digital disruption, companies need to develop entrepreneurial, collaborative and global mind-sets.
