April 27, 2020. Shanghai – A webinar series championed by CEIBS’ Switzerland campus to continue to share world-class management knowledge and piercing business insights during the COVID-19 crisis attracted its 1,000^th participant.

The school launched Lessons for Leaders from the Pandemic, a programme of online events featuring school faculty and other leading thinkers from around the globe, in mid-March, with participants signing up from over 40 different countries so far.

As part of the series, Dr. Allan Bahroun, founder of Delect, a Shanghai-based research consultancy that brings human sciences to the world of business and organisations, headlined an exclusive webinar provided for the CIEBS alumni community. During the session, Dr. Bahroun put forth that the crisis has rapidly integrated digital media into everyday life and that it has demonstrated how embedded the internet has become in Chinese society.

CEIBS Zurich Campus CEO Dr. Robert Straw, who has hosted and moderated the events, explained the series was launched in close collaboration with the school’s main campus in Shanghai.

“The webinars, which have been attended by an average of 250 participants from over 20 countries, are a great way for us to stay in touch with international students, alumni, partners and prospective students,” he stated.

“We are grateful that the content we are offering – often in partnership with other institutions – has had such an incredible reach. It is a testament that the content we are providing is relevant and timely during these challenging times,” he added.

Other webinars in the series have included expert speakers such as David Watkins of Oerlikon AG, Leadership Coach Lisa Bevill, and David Bosshart of GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute.

CEIBS faculty involved include Pascal Lamy, CEIBS Distinguished Professor and Former Director of WTO; Professor Ding Yuan, CEIBS Vice President and Dean; and Professor Emily David, Associate Professor of Management.

April 30, 2020. Shanghai – CEIBS Dean Emeritus Rolf Cremer today delivered 400 masks to help fight the COVID-19 epidemic in his hometown of Bad Honnef, Germany. Professor Cremer presented the masks in person during a special visit to the Bad Honnef Family Alliance and Bad Honnef Mayor Otto Neuhoff.

The need for high-quality masks, disinfectants and other protective equipment for healthcare workers in Germany is still very high and many of the masks delivered by Prof. Cremer will help equip staff at more than 60 medical practices supported by the Bad Honnef Family Alliance.

The masks – which were manufactured in China – were originally prepared by CEIBS as part of a special shipment send to Germany after Prof. Cremer updated the school about the situation in the country in late March.

The gesture further symbolises CEIBS’ role in strengthening the links between Europe and China and, in the words of Prof. Cremer, “the importance of lasting personal friendships like ours, across distance and time.”

In accepting the masks, Bad Honnef Mayor Otto Neuhoff noted that, despite hardships brought about by COVID-19, the outbreak has also allowed people “to experience how literally limitless humanity and friendships can be.”

In addition to the Bad Honnef donation, CEIBS has provided masks to the EFMD, overseas board members, faculty and alumni, as well as current CEIBS students who have been unable to return to China due to the epidemic.

Prof. Cremer’s experience in China and Asia began in 1982 and he served as CEIBS Vice President and Dean from 2004 to 2011. He is also a past recipient of the prestigious Magnolia Award, presented by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government for his outstanding contributions to China in the field of higher education.

Dear CEIBS Global EMBA alumni,

It goes without saying that the outbreak of COVID-19 has disrupted everyone’s plans this year. As a result of the pandemic, our classroom studies and activities have been temporarily suspended, and the usually vibrant CEIBS campus is quiet and lonely at this extraordinary time.

March and April is usually a time when the CEIBS Shanghai campus is full of excitement, when we welcome alumni from around the world for our landmark annual Global EMBA event – the Alumni Reunion Day. With public gatherings temporarily suspended, we have responded to the needs of our alumni to support their continuous learning with the Global EMBA Connect & Learn Series of online sharing activities. So far, these webinars have covered healthcare, supply chains, investment, geopolitics and economics. CEIBS professors and alumni have gathered online to discuss the development trends of the economy under the pandemic. The response from alumni has been fantastic, once again demonstrating their resilient passion for learning.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the alumni who have supported us in 2019 and the beginning of 2020. Our Global EMBA alumni have shown strong support and active engagement with the school and the programme throughout the past year. More than 200 alumni have been actively involved in programme support, branding, and applicant referral, as well as admission interviews. They have devoted huge amounts of their valuable time and energy to help the Global EMBA community further. Despite the pandemic, programme recruitment for the forthcoming class remains strong, even increasing on last year’s results over the same period. At the same time, being ranked 5th by the Financial Times in their annual EMBA ranking is in no small part due to our brilliant alumni.

Last but not least, no matter where you are, we sincerely hope that you are taking good care of yourself and your family in this challenging period. When the pandemic is over, we will meet again on campus!

Public Profile Ambassador Award

The CEIBS Global EMBA Public Profile Ambassador Award recognises alumni who have contributed their time and energy and performed outstandingly in strengthening the branding and communications of the Global EMBA programme.

Business Development Ambassador Award

The Global EMBA Business Development Ambassador Award is awarded in thanks to alumni who are enthusiastic about assisting the future development of the programme. In addition to actively recommending new participants for the Global EMBA, they also help share their learning experience with other applicants.

Special Contribution Award

The Global EMBA Special Contribution Award is a new award category established last year. The two winners are classmates from the GEMBA 2018 class who organised multiple on-site activities to enrich the after-class learning experience of students and alumni.

Admission Ambassador Award

The Global EMBA Admission Ambassador Award is given in thanks to alumni who actively support the admission process of the programme. As interviewers, they play a vital role in ensuring our new intake meet the high calibre demanded by the GEMBA programme.

Ambassador Excellence Award

The Global EMBA Ambassador Excellence Award recognises alumni who have given the Global EMBA office comprehensive support across several of the fields above.

In November 2019, during the CEIBS 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala, 10 alumni won the honorary title of CEIBS Outstanding Alumni Representatives, 3 of whom Global EMBA alumni. These alumni are active in the CEIBS community and contribute a lot to the development of CEIBS.

April 17, 2020. Shanghai – A new face joins the CEIBS International Advisory Board (IAB) today. Mrs. Laetitia Garnier, Executive Director & CEO of H&H Group, officially becomes part of the eminent group formed in 2012 to advise CEIBS’ school leadership on strategic issues and support the school in its quest for “China Essence, Global Significance”.

Mrs. Garnier joined H&H (known then as Biostime) in July, 2010. The company was founded in 1999 and first publicly traded on the main board of Hong Kong Stock Exchange in December, 2010. With brand centres in Australia, China, France and the United States, as well as R&D centres in five locations around the world, the H&H is on its way to becoming a global leader in advanced baby and adult nutrition and care, and premium quality vitamins and supplements. In her current capacity, Mrs. Garnier is primarily responsible for the group’s overall strategies, planning and business development.

Before joining H&H, she worked for the French Trade Commission in South China, where she was responsible for supporting and lobbying on behalf of French companies partnering, exporting and investing in China; especially those in consumer goods and health sectors. Mrs. Garnier obtained a master’s in business administration and corporate strategy from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris.

The CEIBS International Advisory Board is currently chaired by Former Prime Minister of France Dominique de Villepin, who is also a Distinguished Professor at CEIBS. Mrs. Garnier's addition to the IAB further enhances the diversity of the board in terms of background, gender and nationality.
