We asked Matthias Wichmann, Secretary General of the CEIBS Germany chapter, a few questions on his MBA experience with China. Matthias was born and raised in a small town in Germany. He enjoys travelling to different countries and has a strong interest in Finance, doing investments and developing businesses. During his free time, he enjoys doing sports, meeting friends and walking his dog. 

Why did you choose to study at CEIBS?

When I made the decision to study for an MBA, I considered several factors: What is the reputation of the school? How can the school help me to advance my career? What are the key advantages to studying at that school? It was important to me to find a school where I would not only be able to grow professionally but also personally by improving my leadership, team-working and intercultural skills – CEIBS offered all of this with the addition of being exposed to the Chinese culture and the competitive advantage this gives me when doing business with Chinese partners in the future.

How do you feel CEIBS changed your perspective personally, academically and professionally?

I learned a lot about the Chinese culture, working with my Chinese classmates. I believe that this experience is invaluable to be able to adapt to new situations and teams in the future.

Before studying my MBA, I had a background in Finance but at CEIBS, I was able to broaden my knowledge in other significant fields in management (e.g. Strategy, Marketing, Human Resources) and most importantly, specifically in the context of China.

CEIBS also offers a very valuable alumni network in China and abroad. The ongoing internationalization of CEIBS and the cooperation with international companies proves an advantage in my professional development.

What advice would you give to a candidate considering studying with CEIBS?

CEIBS is the best school if an international candidate wants to gain “China experience”. Many schools advertise themselves as international, but I believe CEIBS is the best school to improve your China edge and get access to the most important alumni network in China.
